Through the backstreets of Florence, away from crowds we take you to lesser known places, often missed by visitors. Hidden treasures inside little churches, beautiful gardens behind walls and artisans workshops along the Arno river’s left bank.
Our Hidden Florence walk starts with the church of Santa Maria Novella. Off-the-beaten-track, with fascinating marble inlay facade it is one of cities landmarks. Once inside Santa Maria Novella, admire masterpieces by Giotto, Masaccio and Ghirlandaio. Around the corner find the famous old pharmacy, still in use today. Smell and inhale potpourris and soaps made from natural ingredients, view antique instruments and ceramic jars used by the Dominican monks of Santa Maria Novella.
The Rucellai neighborhood with the church of Santa Trinità whose famous Sassetti chapel has frescoes featuring detailed examples of Florentine fashion and cityscapes which aid to reveal life during the Renaissance.
While Journeying these back streets we’ll see wine doors, tabernacles and other such examples of life in the day of a typical Florentine.
Crossing the Arno river to the Oltrarno neighborhood, we’ll find alleyways lined with artisan workshop to explore while we stroll what was once the Jewish neighborhood of Florence.
We conclude this tour at a beautiful Florentine Piazza, often missed by tourists, the picturesque piazza Santo Spirito.
